Kalami beach is located in front of the homonymous settlement on the north-eastern shores of the island and enchants the visitors at first sight. It is a beach with small pebbles and crystal waters, surrounded by a verdant landscape with pine and cypress trees. Kalami beach is fully organized and has been awarded with the Blue Flag of the European Union for its clean waters. It offers a great variety of sea sports such as water-skiing, canoe and pedalos. There are also deck-chairs and parasols for hire. It is a tranquil and shallow beach, ideal for families. In Kalami beach you can also find many traditional taverns by the sea, some bars for snacks and drinks which are open all day long. Towards the end of the beach you can see the house where, the writer Lawrence Durrell lived, the so-called «White House» of the early 20th century in which he was inspired to write «Prospero’s Cell». Nowadays, this house has been converted to a touristy lodging with a tavern and rooms to let. If you like walking and exploring, there are some seaside paths in Kalami beach that lead to beautiful beaches of the surrounding area, such as Kouloura beach (15 minutes on foot) and Kerasia beach (30 minutes on foot).
