brought to you by THEATRIKES SKINES and Petros Zoulias
from 15 MARCH
AT THE PALLAS THEATRE
SURTITLES IN PALLAS THEATER
THEATRIKES SKINES SA offer the opportunity to all foreign visitors and residents of Athens as well as theater-lovers with hearing difficulties to watch the performances at PALLAS Theater.
In Athens, a city rightly described as the theatrical capital, with more than 1,500 theatrical performances per year, theater must be a choice for all, including the foreign-language audience, especially when it comes to Athens’ most central theater.
Therefore, performances at PALLAS Theater will be from now on presented with English Surtitles which will always be treated with respect for the artists and the public in a professional translation, fine tuning and will be distinct and easy to read.
Surtitles will also appear in Greek so that our fellow humans with hearing difficulties can enjoy the show as well.
- Surtitles are in English and Greek. Recommended seats are the ones in the last rows of the stalls (below 10th row) and in the dress and upper circle.
- Surtitles are available for the main evening show of PALLAS Theater (Wednesday to Sunday)
Dimitris Psathas’ celebrated political satire Liar Wanted looks at politicians’ relationships with the clients who vote them into power. Translated into multiple languages and performed in numerous countries around the world, a new production of Liar Wanted is coming to the Pallas Theatre on 15 March 2019.
Needless to say, its subject-matter—lying in politics—is as relevant today as it ever was. Thodoros Silvertongue, or Thodoros the Liar (played by Alexis Georgoulis) declares himself a professional liar and leaves his village for Athens and a job in which he can put his talents to good use. A chance quarrel and a punch landed on a fellow passenger on the tram—his boss-to-be Ferekis, a Member of Parliament (played by Giorgos Partsalakis)—will clear the way for a brilliant career as the MP’s private secretary; a career founded in the brazen, blatant lies he comes up with to justify his employer’s failure to deliver on the promises he made his angry voters before the elections. Thodoros the Liar undertakes to take care of all his master’s problems with ministries, prisons, unions and… cabaret artistes, and in record time. But his successful career as a very special secretary brings him into conflict with the MP’s wife, the lovely Jenny (Natalia Dragoumi). Can he succeed against such a powerful opponent? That will depend on Agis (Argyris Angelou) and the sexy Pitsa Kitsa (Apostolia Zoi in her first theatrical role), the nightclub singer who has captivated the entire male population of the capital!
Liar Wanted examines one of our species’ most obvious characteristics: our talent for blocking out and embroidering reality. Thodoros the Liar represents escape from an ugly and miserable reality. The flight from harsh truth to hope and dreams. He needs to believe that, dirt poor as he is, he will one day be rich. His survival instincts are strong. He is the provincial who, unable to make ends meets back home, packs up his bag and moves to Athens to seek his fortune; to become someone. To do that, Thodoros needs to keep the dream alive inside. It’s the only way he can make his lies come true and make it through difficult times.
Wanted Liar is a timeless work which has as much to say today as it did when it was written. It should come as no surprise that it has played to packed houses and rave reviews in the US, Canada, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Romania. For it is a powerful, universal work.

Designed to obey the style of classicism in line with French models, its monumental entrance is dominated by multicolored marble and an impressive staircase, while the foyer is decorated with walnut paneling, Art Deco stained glass and elaborate mosaics. Its undulating roof was typical of structures of this vintage style. In its original form, the auditorium had a capacity of 2500 seats.
The theatre was fully renovated in the early 2000, while retaining and conserving all its historical elements, and thus turning the Pallas into a contemporary monument. Stage and stalls were completely redesigned, reconstructed and equipped with the latest audiovisual systems to allow for more technically-demanding, contemporary spectacles to be hosted.
The renovated Pallas premiered in November 2006 with Dimitris Papaioannou’s performance “2”, his first project right after The 2004 Olympic Games Ceremonies. Since then, it has hosted productions from all over the world and has receive massive audience attendance and acknowledgement.
The theatre is situated at Voukourestiou Street, near Syntagma (Constitution) Square, one of the most elegant commercial locations in downtown Athens. Housed in the Army Pension Fund building, it is the most suitable venue for all sorts of high-quality productions.
It is currently been managed by Theatrikes Skines S.A
We are delighted to inform you that THEATRIKES SKINES SA offer the opportunity to all English speaking residents or visitors in Athens to expand their cultural scope, as performances at PALLAS TEHATRE now feature English surtitles.
We believe that in Athens, a city featuring more than 1,500 theatrical performances per year and rightly described as the theatrical capital, attending the theater should be an option for everyone, including foreign-language audiences, especially when it comes to Athens’ most central theater. To that end, PALLAS THEATRE, housed in an Art Deco landmark building, which dates back to the 1930s and was fully and respectfully renovated in 2006, has introduced English surtitles during the theater’s main evening performances, Wednesday through Sunday.
‘The Witches of Smyrna’
This season, PALLAS THEATRE presents the much-anticipated theatrical extravaganza ‘The Witches of Smyrna’ by Mara Meimaridi, adapted for the stage and directed by Stamatis Fasoulis, with an all-star cast and production team. Mara Meimaridi’s multiple-award-winning atmospheric novel, which captivated a million readers worldwide and received rave reviews when it was adapted to the small screen by Kostas Koutsomytis in 2005, has now come to the Pallas stage, ready to transport theater-lovers back to late 19th-century Smyrna for a tale of passion, magic, spells, perfumes and love affairs.
You can obtain information about the performances presented in PALLAS THEATRE with English surtitles through http://www.theatrikesskines.gr/performances-with-surtitles
We would appreciate if you would share this information. We remain at your disposal for further information and recommendations.
Please keep in mind:
- Surtitles are in English and Greek. For optimal surtitle visibility, we recommend the seats located in the last rows of the stalls (below 10th row) and in the dress and upper circle.
- Surtitles are available for the main evening show of PALLAS Theater (Wednesday through Sunday)

With a focus on the performance “ATRIDES / ANCIENT PATHOS” (in English), workshops (masks, acting etc) are organized, which lead to small performances on the stage, with the participation of the audience and the actors. The results are amazing. The group leave excited because they were in a welcoming warm atmosphere, they saw a high-level show, participated in a creative event where it met Greek artists, spoke to them about Greek culture, theater and mythology, built with its own hands something he took with him in his country.
The performance ATRIDES / Ancient Passion is a spectacular composition of top scenes of our three tragedies, which make up the whole story of Atrides house. The contemporary directional view, the use of video in giant screens, the original music, the acting of the actors, make the theatrical experience unique. Full of potential conflict, the show, at a rapid pace, does not tire the spectators and keeps their interest alive. (Duration: 1 hour)
The performance starts from the sacrifice of Iphigeneia, until Orestes acquitted and the establishment of democracy.

The historic Theater Apollon is one of the major attractions of Syros and constitutes an emblem of the island’s cultural heritage. Created in 1864 by the Italian architect Pietro Sampo who was inspired by 4 stunning Italian standards including the Scala di Milano, the theater Apollon adorns the heart of the capital to this day. The Apollo Theater first opened its doors with an Italian theater troupe that among others performances staged the famous Italian opera La Traviata. Its architectural splendor though did not manage to prevent the major catastrophes that the theater suffered over the years. The Apollon theater was forced to close and to spend a long period of renovations and interventions with funding from the state, with the full support of GNTO and the artistic supervision of Dimitris Fortsas as well as of the architect Peter Pikionis until 2000. Today the theater hosts various artistic and cultural events such as the Festival of the Aegean, famous plays and world-class performances.
Cultural Events of Syros
The Apollon theater hosts some of the most important cultural events, operas and amazing theatrical works from local and international theatrical troupes. Theater enthusiasts can find information on upcoming performances and learn about reservations and tickets for plays and events they wish to attend through the theater’s calendar of events. The Apollon theater also houses the Theater Museum or else “the memory place” founded in 2002. The Museum hosts findings from local and other artists who played an important role in the history of this monumental theater, a theater being the ultimate alternative for entertainment and unrivaled amusement on the island.
